Keep restarting the computer but always starts back up in safe mode.

Control Panel => Administrative Tools => System Configuration.  Boot tab, uncheck "Safe boot".

OK Bob,

You are obviously the man.

Now can you help me get this computer to take a network key that I know is the right key but it keeps telling me is incorrect?

Thanks,

Trivett

Unfortunately I don't know any quick fixes on that one.  It's got to be some kind of incompatibility though.  If you have control of the router, you can try switching it to another authentication scheme.  I use WPA2-Personal with an encryption type of AES.  What are you using?

Was a WPA.  We switched to a WEP...

BOB!

You are 2 for 2.

NOBODY I talked to knew how to fix that, but apparently Windows 8 will only do WPA2 and AES.

You should post that info up to my other thread so everyone can find it.

Thanks a million,

Trivett

You're welcome, glad I could help!  It was a lucky guess. :)   I'll post in the other thread.

I did this several times, when i reboot, it keeps coming up in safe mode. When i look at the boot configuration safe mode is still checked even though i had unchecked it in the previous boot. Also it will not allow me to keep network boot on so i am screwed unless i do a complete wipeout of windows 8...what a piece of crap software..almost as bad as millenium!

This did not work for me.  It wasn't checked and I'm still in safe mode boot after reboot.  HELP!

Bob, You're a genius!  Toshiba took over my computer to see why my printer wouldn't load and after they exited it wouldn't come out of safe mode no matter how many times I shut down.  I called them back and they wanted to do a system recovery on it to solve the problem they caused!  I nearly had a heart attack!!!  Your solution did the trick!!  I wish you could help with the printer install problem.  Thanks for your suggestion!!

You're welcome, glad to help!  I wish I knew how to fix the printer install pI know someone else with a similar problem and I've been working with him on it.  Still no luck though.

I'm stuck in the same 'Safe Mode' loop. I unchecked the safe mode but still back in safe mode. I had to run the command line to get into safe mode, is there axon mans line to run in order to reset/ get out?

Bob, I called Norton to help me sort a possible virus issue.  They wanted to connect with me remotely but couldn't so they asked me to go into safe mode by typing msconfig.....  Anyway while is safe mode there is a password prompt on the front screen and I dont remember the password...I have been using my fingerprint which is not availble in safe mode.  I keep turning off the computer and it comes back with the password prompt.  I can't access anything else on the computer...it does not take me into windows.  I am running Windows 8 on an HP laptop.

That's a tough one to get out of.  One of the password CD's available on the internet is what you're probably going to have to use if you can't remember the password, but if you don't have any way to download them and burn them to CD it's a problem.   Maybe calling HP support you can go through their recovery routines.   Other than that, bring it to someone good with computers is about the best I can suggest.   Maybe someone else has a better suggestion.

Thank you, Bob Comer.  It worked.

Windows 8 should, though, make choosing the mode more obvious, rather than burying it.
