How to do a one way audio and video conference with Lync 2010?

Hi all,

I'd like to do a video & voice conference with other Lync users (all connected to the same Lync server), but I don't want to have to install cameras and give everyone headsets with a microphone for them to participate.

The idea is to have the CEO etc do a live video & voice conference to everyone in the org, but have them chat back using the IM in a Group Chat window (or similar).

Is this possible? It doesn't seem I can do a Lync call without both ends having at least a microphone (I'm assuming a video call will have the same limitation, but I don't have a web cam on my PC to try.)

Is it possible in 2010 (or 2013?) to initiate a one-way video/voice conference? (I don't have the Group Chat role enabled yet, but will do so soon.)

Cheers!

Steve

You don't need a camera to join a conference call which includes video.  The Lync client will still receive the video, it just obviously won't be able to receive it.

Regarding audio the clients will need to have an audio device so they can join the call portion of the meeting, but you'll simply set all attendees to mute (a presenter can do this) so that all audio is only received and not sent.

If you want to make an audio call, you should have at least a microphone. It is possible to initiate a one-way video/voice conference. The user who initiate the conference should have cameras and headset with a microphone. The other users who dont have can IM with other users.

To go a little further with this. If I disable someone for audio/video and they want to see a video call from someone that is video/audio enabled. Is that possible?

Is there a workaround for users that don't have a mic or video capability to see other participants video? Use case - users would call into these meetings, which are usually hosted in conference room, just to observe but not participate in the meetings. We recently discovered that they can't be invited to or call into these meetings unless they also have a webcam and/or mic. With Communicator/Live Meeting, this was not an issue.
