How to disconnect from Ethernet connection ?
I can easily disconnect any wireless connection, but the wired Ethernet connection doesn't have this option. So if I need to do it I have to unplug the cable or disable the connection.I would like to do it from the tray icon - is there a way to do so?

That's what I do if I switch over to wireless from a wired connection. Of course I also use the wireless switch on my laptop to turn on/off my wireless hardware when not in use which is the majority of the time.To add, if you keep both a wired and wireless connection on at the same time the automatic metric function will pick the higher speed connection as the primary one.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299540 MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"

Simply unplug the Ethernet cable. Yes but that's what I want to avoid - imagine if the cable is not easy to access etc.In Vista the connection showed a tray icon, and all I had to do was to chose 'disconnect' (or reconnect to connect again). In Vista one icon would show for each connection - one for the LAN, one for the Wifi etc.

Well, by design MSFT kind of dumbed down the tray icon for whatever reason. You could make a shortcut to the wired Ethernet adapter on your desktop and select enable/disable to control it. Not ideal but it would work.MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"

Guppy49, Are you sure you mean Vista? It worked like that in XP. Vista has a single icon linked to the Network and SharingCenter, like WIn 7.Bill

I added the shortcut to the quick-launch bar.To Bill: You make me doubt - I have no Vista computer around, but I'll check on my daughters computer when she's back next weekend. It might depend onthe network card.
