How to disable out of office reply!
Hello, Quick question...I created an "out of office" reply in Outlook Express 6 and now it won't go away. I typed it under "tools", "message rules", then "mail". I removed the mail rule and it doesn't appear as active anymore but people are still getting my away message when they send me a message. Please help!!1 person needs an answerI do too

Can you confirm it is no longer visible in the list of rules? Did you create a Out Of Office reply on your mail server as well? If you find no logical answer, create a new identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it.Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity. How to Create and Use Identities in Outlook Expresshttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209169Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

Hi Bruce, Thanks for responding to me. To answer your questions...when I to to Tools/Message Rules/Mail the rule still exists as New Mail Rule #1 but no criteria are checked off so I was assuming that it wouldn't be applied anymore. I don't know how to completely remove it.When I go to Messages/Create Rule from Message I still see it there and under the "Select your conditions for this rule" the box is checked that reads....where the from line contains people. I try to unclick the box but then a window come up and says you must select at least one criteria from the list to create a rule.So I guess my question now is where do I go to remove the rule?I do not believe I created the message on the mail server as well. Thanks for any help you can give me.Nancy

Tools | Message Rules | Mail. Click on the rule to highlight it and then click the Remove button at the right.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

There is no way to highlight it. If I highlight it and right click it does give me the option to delete it but then it doesn't do it. I'm afraid its going to be here forever :-(

If you left click on it once, it turns blue. Correct? Then click on the Remove button. That does nothing? What about the Modify button. Can you uncheck everything? If not, can you check Stop Processing More Rules and uncheck everything else? Iv you can, move the rule to the bottom of the list. There is another guaranteed way to get rid of the rule, but it will get rid of all your rules and they will have to be rebuilt. 1.. Close OE and then In Regedit, navigate to this key: |--HKEY_CURRENT_USER |-----Identities |--------{GUID} |-----------Software |--------------Microsoft |-----------------Outlook Express |--------------------5.0 where GUID is the Global Unique IDentifier for your Identity. 2.. Under that key, you will find the following sub-keys, amongothers: |-----------------------Block Senders |-----------------------Rules |-----------------------SignaturesSelect the Rules Key and delete it. Message Rules will be empty, but you can rebuild it now. Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]
