You can make a bootable media manually.

From an Windows vista or newer.

Open an eleveted commando prompt.

run diskpart

then:

Diskpart> list disk

Diskpart> sel disk 1                    <---------------- the number of you usb

Diskpart>clean

Diskpart>create part pri

Diskpart>format fs=ntfs quick

Diskpart>Active

Diskpart>Assign

Now he usbdisk is ready, copy the files from the windows 8 media.

Now you boot and install Windows from the usb.

Please follow the below procedure.
  1. Windows 8 x64 ISO
  2. WIndows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool
  3. 32-bit bootsect.exe

Create the installer

  1. Install the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
  2. Extract the 32-bit bootsect.exe file to the directory that the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool was installed to. This is usually something likeC:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apps\Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool.
  3. Run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and select your Windows 7 disc image. Follow the remaining steps in this tool and your image should be created successfully!

Hope a Reply the thread from New PC.

I am confused. How does selecting the Windows 7 disc image create a Windows 8 bootable USB? Is it a typo? Where do I get the 32-bit bootsector.exe, from the Windows 8 32-bit ISO or from somewhere else?

Nope, no typo. I have used the Windows 7 selection for Windows 7, 8, Vista, Server 2008R2 and Server 2012 USB installations.

OK,

Granted that this may be working for some folks, but I have some questions before I try this.

1) I think I know this, but just to be clear, what exactly is "32-bit bootsect.exe", and what does it do?

3) For Windows 8 x64 shouldn't there be a  "64-bit bootsect.exe"?

2) Can I download a copy from Microsoft directly or find it in an image somewhere so that I may better trust that it is not hacked or infected? It is very nice of you to provide a download link, but most people consider it very bad practice to just use random programs found on the web.

-Thanks

Create a Windows 8 USB installation disk is very easy, you just need to Get a Windows 8 ISO image file from Microsoft Official site, and get a Windows 8 USB install tool, and then burn the Windows 8 ISO image file to the USB. Please make sure to burn the Windows 8 image file to the USB, or your PC will not be boot from the USB drive.

After you have created the Windows 8 bootable USB successfully, the step to set your pc to boot from the USB is also very important. You have to get into the BIOS settings to change the USB device for the first boot option, or it wont boot from the USB disk automatically.

When you do that to make an Win 8 x64 from a 32-bit Windows machine you get an error because it need the bootsec.exe so your post is not an answer to the problem.

Where to find bootsec.exe in an official version is what would be nice to know as it is impossible to find it via search on MS pages.
