How to connect mobile device to WIndows 7 as guest automatically?
Under WIndows Xp and ActiveSync 4.5, if the registry entry of GuestOnly with value 1 is set, ActiveSync will always connected as Guest. Can this be done with Mobile Devcie Center?

Windows 7 is more secure, so make sure the Guest account is enabled My MVP is for the Windows Desktop Experience, i.e. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT Remote Assistance is available for a fee. Vegan Fanatic, Sorry, I guess I was not very clear. When I connect a mobile device to Windows XP using ActivSync, it will pop up a window to ask if I want to associate the device to synchronize Outlook, Tasks, Calendar or simply want to connect as Guest which will prevent ActivSync to try to synchronize to the mobile device. I normally select Guest associateion, so that the Windows XP PC will act as a conduit to let the mobile device connects to the internet. We have so many mobile devices that need only to use the PC to connect to the internet to upload and download data. I later found out that when the key value of 'GuestOnly' is set to 1 under '\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services', ActivSync will no longer pop up the window to ask for the association. I am just trying to find a way to do the same with Windows 7 and Windows Mobile Center. Thank you.

Hi, As far as I know, there is no option in Windows Mobile Device Center to connect as a Guest, there are some similar threads for your references: Windows Mobile Device Center with Win 7 RTM - GuestOnly partnership WMDC on Win 7 Guest Account Only Alex ZhaoPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Alex, Thank you for your help. I have read the two forums about the same issue we are facing. We are currently using Windows XP and are thinking about migrating to Windows 7. But if we cannot use Windows 7 with Mobile Device Center the same way that Windows XP and ActivSync (in guest mode via the GuestOnly registry setting) work together, we probably will not be updating those PC's. We have 2000+ Windows CE mobile devices that need to connect to the PC via AcitivSync and use the PC as the conduit to transmit data to the internet without synchronizing calendar, contacts to the mobile devices. Hopefully, the MS development team responsible for Mobile Device Center will enhance it to have this feature like ActivSync. Regards, Thiti

Today devices are different and generally smarter. If you use Apple devices like I do, you need iTunes which can sync to a point. Its not strong with interoperability to Office 2010 but it can be done. Other vendors have their own solutions, so you may have to depend on them for tools to replace active sync.
