How to connect a non stored credential EAP profile using netsh command in Windows 8.1?

Hi,

I am writing a script using Netsh Commands in windows 8.1. When I was trying to connect EAP profiles which are configured with non stored credentials using netsh command, its not prompting for a user credential window. But same netsh command is working fine with a stored credential EAP profiles.

Steps I followed:

  1. created a Microsoft PEAP-MSCHAPv2 profile without saving credentials using default network manager in Windows 8.1.
  2. open the command prompt in admin mode to enter the following netsh command.
  3. netsh wlan connect name="profile name"
  4. It will show as "Connection request was completed successfully" but, it is not prompting a credential window.

I am not understanding why its not prompting for a credential because, its prompting and connecting if you press a connect button in a default network manager of Windows 8.1.

Please give me your suggestions to resolve this issue and please let me know if you need some more info to solve.

Hi Wu,

Thanks for your reply. Here I added some more points to clear my setup and doubts to you.

  1. I am not using the interface which is already connected to a network. so before I am executing a netsh command,Wireless  adapter state is "Not Connected" only.
  2.  If we didn't store the credentials, It will not assume credential as a blank. Actually it should prompt for a credentials and that is what happening in Windows 7.
  3. A very important point is, the same steps I followed in Windows 7. its prompted for credential and connected to a network.

So my doubt is, Why its not prompting for a credential While same command and steps  are prompting  for a credential in Windows 7?

Thanks,

Venky R.
