How to change wireless wep key in XP
Had to change our router wep key to 64bit from 128. Have a laptop that's still set to the 128 key. Can not find where or what to open so I can change the existing 128 wept key to a 64bit key ? Can someone please tell me where/what to open to get to the wep key entry screen for my wireless settings ? Have looked all through "network settings", etc...but can not find the setup key screen to changed the key. Thanks, Tim

You need to logged into the router config page to do the changes. You could access it by typing the IP of the router in IE, example the following http://192.126.0.4/ To get the IP of the router do a ipconfig /all, under default gateway you should be able to see the router IP, remember to save changes before leaving the router config page

Tim this is windows 7 forum and you posted XP in the titleare you using the windows zero config or do you have a util for the wi-fi you use.Windows Zero config is the little computerr icon down by the clock on XP and the little graph in windows 7highlite and right the connection and select properties or delete and recreate it.Daniel he changed the router already, it is the Laptop he wants to change.

Thanks guys...yes...the router has been reconfigured and all PC's printers, etc are working...except my laptop. This is an HP laptop and it has it's own software that seems to be overriding the normal windows network setups ? Have tried to disable it to get to the normal screen but still get the message like " other software on your computer may prevent you from changing...etc " Same with "view wireless connections"...I get a message saying it can't be done because of other software ? What I can't find is the basic XP wireless screen when you set up a wireless network...which was done on this laptop...to enter the wep key into ? Where do i find this screen...and/or should I just delete/remove the home network from the laptop only and try to reconfig ? Sorry about the XP/Win 7...did search for XP forums and somehow ended up here...but didn't notice when I posted... Tim

I guess you folks are not reading the post. The poster is working with XP not win 7.Trinaz, are you logged in as administrator??? you may need be if the user does not permission to change network settings. If the wireless is using a third party program then I can not help you, there SHOULD be a way to turn off the util and tell windows to use the ZERO configure built into XP.you are going to have to provide infowhat error..what is the util handling the wireles
