How to change certain policy settings win win7 home basic (what I can do with gpedit on Professional, etc)
I need to change some policy settings on my wife's new laptop. One of the settings is that I typically don't use passwords on any computer inside my home network. When I try to join with the new win7 home basic it asks me for the password and it won't accept a blank password. In xp i could go to administrative tools and change local security policy settings, in win7 premium or pro I can run gpedit.msc and do the same, how can I do it in win7 home basic? There are some other settings I'd like to change but am unable to get to them. Any ideas? Thanks

There is a spread sheet that maps group policy settings to registry entries. You might be able to use that to modify the registry to do what you want. Be careful doing this and make sure you backup the registry first...http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registrySee the WindowsServer2008R2andWindows7GroupPolicySettings.xlsx download in the Download section at the bottom of this page.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=18c90c80-8b0a-4906-a4f5-ff24cc2030fb&displaylang=en#filelistGood luck... Some policies may not be found if it is not a 0/1 setting. You can also try to find the key modified on Windows 7 Professional edition and copy the key to Home edition. Please remember backup registry key as Al said.
