How to change a MAC address on Windows 7
Applications that change MAC addresses with Windows XP and Vista no longer work. Do you know of any applications or finally functionality in the OS that make it possible to change a MAC address? Thanks!

I would also be interested in the answer; it was quite easy to do under windows xp (just go under the properties of the network car), but this option doesn't exist anymore. I've tried several other methods (little softwares), but without success. Even changing the value in regedit isnt working (procedure here )... If anyone has a proposition, I would be glad to try ;)

Follow this steps: Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > right click on adapter name, then Properties > Configure > Advanced tab > Network adress By default, "Not present" value it's on. Just click on the blank field and write the MAC address you want (without the lines, eg. 00FB0R...). Hope this helped.

personaly the network address is missing from the advanced tab. I was presuming that windows seven changed that, but maybe I'm wrong. Do you have this option available on win7?

This is for all versions of Windows. Check if, in adapter properties, you have installed all needed protocols (Link-layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver and Responder. First of all, thank you for you answers ;) it's nice being helped. Actually it's pretty funny, because on my ethernet card, I can modify whatever I want; but under my wifi card the options are very limited : http://www.flowminded.com/docs/MACaddress.png (the left windows is for the ethernet, and the right one for the wireless) so maybe you're right SavySB, perhaps I haven't everything installed. But I checked and the "Link-layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver and Responder" is present. do you think it can be a driver problem?

Hi, I use Win 7 RC 1 7100 and tried change the MAC with software (TMAC 5 R3) and advanced properties of driver, but nothing. Some one interesting is that in properties of driver I set MAC ADDRESS and this keep, but in state connections properties display the original. Used TMAC 5 R3. MAC original: 00-45-12-1f-d5-cd MAC liked change: 00-12-f2-12-sd-f1-f5 ........when device is disabled and used (TMAC 5 R3) with administrator account , this program does change. When enable the device network, the change keep without effect. and display: MAC ADDRESS....: 00-45-12-1f-d5-cd (Inactive, 00-12-f2-12-sd-f1-f5) I think is the driver that install automatically windows 7 "AR5005GS #2" or some SERVICE capture settings adapter properties why when install SOFTWARE TP-LINK this haven't access to device in somewhere find that changed driver to XP can change MAC, but can't change driver to XP on Win 7...... someone know how can do this.. while ......... try change register windows PD: Link-layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver and Responder... is ENABLE

?? I just used the two standard ways: 1. Control Panel->device Manage->Network Adapter->Adv.->Network Address, put some values in the text box 2. Change the register key value, like link here: http://www.windowsreference.com/networking/how-to-change-mac-address-in-windows-registry/ But like I said, only change my MAC to dissimilar started address, like 10-, 12-, 13-, 14- ....

Hi, same problem here (win7 ultimate x64 build 7600 in a amd notebook) but for all netword adapters... I tryed to change from adapter settings, registry, smac 2.0 and mac makeup , but no sucess at all... Only works if address is something like 12xx (as JasonFz said). The program TMAC shows something insteresting : MAC Address....00-E0-4C-00-F4-A8 (Inactive, 00-E0-4C-24-60-19) 00-E0-4C-00-F4-A8 is the original mac 00-E0-4C-24-60-19 is the spoof And at the 'net config rdr' there is no 'Workstation active on'. Screens: http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/1638/tmacmacinactive.png http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7756/cmdnetconfigrdr.png Any help? Another interesting fact: I have the same win build version (win7 7600 x64) installed in my desk (amd too), and used the same wireless usb-driver, but there I have no problem in changing the mac...

In sum of the above information given, I find a proper way on how to change Mac address under windows 7.Windows 7 is very strange on changing Mac address, it can only be done sucessfully if you start the MAC adress on the first two characters start from 12 XX XX XX XX XX (You can put any number after 12)For example, if you want to change mac address for a lan card , you should start the mac address from this style , such as 12 A6 57 32 76 D4. Then the Mac address changing for a lan card should be done sucessfully. Also I recommend that Mac Makeup Ver. 1.95d is the best MAC changing software for windows 7, I have tested it and always sucessfully changing the mac address starting from 12 XX XX XX XX XX.You can download Mac Makeup from http://www.gorlani.com/publicprj/macmak makeup.asp

For me MacMakeUp_1.95d works fine (Desktop machine, no wireless card, USB Bluetooth dongle), I managed to change my MAC address without any hassle to 00-15-.... Just run the program, fill your desired MAC address and push CHANGE. That's all. For laptops: First disable Bluetooth and Wireless card (if there is Bluetooth card, not USB dongle). They have different MAC addresses than your LAN card. Then run MacMakeUp_1.95 (you can see in the above posts the url from where you can download it) and change your MAC address. This program can change the MAC address only for LAN card, not for the others (Bluetooth or Wireless). No problem to be 00-..... After you can check your real MAC address. Open Command prompt and write: ipconfig/all. You can see MAC addresses for all your cards installed (LAN, Bluetooth or Wireless).

HOW TO CHANGE MAC ADDRESS IN WINDOWS 7? Very easy. The problem is not in win7, it`s in drivers that win7 installs instead of you. This is for those with wireless card isue!!! If you have wireless card on your desktop computer just manually update preinstalled driver (the one that windows installed) with XP driver. 99% of laptop computers have opened option in adapter properties for changing mac address without any software needed. Go to update driver in your card properties and choose to browse hdd, then to pick from a list. Uncheck show compatible hardware and pick your card from list and go to have disk. Locate xp driver and install it. BUT!!! Before you do that install card wireless software and mark it to run as an administrator then restart, install xp driver and restart again just in case. Any tool for changing mac address works in my case. I use A-Mac address changer or MacMakeup. Eather way address changes. Offcourse this also must be checked to run as an admin (MacMakeup). This was tested on Win7 Ultimate black ed. ev.copy 7077 and coupple more versions of ultimate edition and on TP-Link TL-WN353GD wireless card. Address changes to 00 xx...!!! There might be wrong spelling! Sorry! :)

Rugaal: That Means it couldn't complete the transfer. It's a problem with the program (IE It's not meant for Windows 7) AND TO EVERYONE HAVING PROBLEMS: What all of the "smart people" above me are trying to say is if your MAC address starts with something like for example: 00-03-A1-etc-etc... Doing Either the programs OR Regedit with the same starting "00-" Will not work... This must be a problem with windows 7 not liking similar MAC's. What they are trying to say is it change your "00-" to something like "12-" or "10-" or 11-" etc in order to make it work with your programs. I am using a "free" version of Smac. Try torrenting for it, it has a very simple and easy to use gui. You could also try using the other free programs while doing the "12-" etc etc fix and see if it works for you. All I know is I used to Have a MAC that started with 00-03-A1 etc etc etc, and I couldn't get it to change untill I changed the first digits from "00-" to "12-" HOPE THIS HELPS! P.S. to all of the "professionals" in this topic that tried to help, I am a computer tech and I could understand the person who had broken english better than the high end terms you use. Please remember that you are talking to mostly beginners, and not people that have taken networking classes lol.

I've tested all these, and the only one that worked for me, was downloading http://www.gorlani.com/publicprj/macmak … makeup.asp Step 1. Download mac make up. Unzip it. Step 2. Open Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center Click on Change adapter settings then Right click on your network connection (Local Area LAN or Wireless WAN) Now disable it. Step 3. Unplug your cable modem from the back of the modem. Step 4. Right click on mac make up , Run as Administrator . Step 5. Click the generate random button, Select Random OID > Really Random! Now click the Change button. Step 6. Should say it was spoofed. Once you are done with that, Re-enable your LAN/WAN connection. And plug your modem back in. You're done! Hope this helps.

Wow...just...wow. Everything I tried up until now wasn't working and I was about to give up, figured I'd give your method a try (figured it was a longshot) and it worked. You are my hero. :D

I search everywhere for changing a Windows 7 x64 based wireless card. I finally found this: http://lizardsystems.com/wiki/change_mac_address/faq/change_mac_address_in_windows_7 Basically Windows 7 has a limit on what you can use for your mac address in the number 2 nibble. 2, 6, A, and E are the only available options for it to be accepted as valid. The above steps to change your mac will work in Win 7, but just have to be sure the 2nd nibble is set to one of these 4.

install wifi driver for windows xp in windows 7 and u can change the mac address It works perfect. you search the web for the Drivers of your computer or laptop. Once you've located them download the windows Xp driver for your woreless device to a cartain location where it's easy to find. Next open device manager and under network adapters locate the driver that's curently installed. Right click on it and press "Update Driver Software" Click on "Brows my computer for driver software" Next click on "Let Me Pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" on the bottom right corner click on "have disk" Hit "Brows" and scroll over to the path where you downloaded the windows XP driver. install it and you should be able to change the Phisical Address under configuration menu. You will have to unzip the file fors before installing it. However Windows 7 updater intends to automatically update the driver again to the windows 7 driver then it stops working again even though to option to change the address is still their. If you notice that it's doing that you'll have to completely uninstall it and start from scratch again. but keep an eye on updates are ready to install on the bottom right screen at the start menu. When it comes up agian click on it to open it then click on important updates then you'll notice the windows 7 update is their for your wireless driver right click on it and press "hide update" to disable to automatic update. save and exit and your done. This worked for me and I hope it helps others. Please let me know how it works for you. Thanks

User N.Eee proposed what I believe is the correct answer; I don't think it's a bug, is intentionally made... MAC address: "XY-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX" "X" can be anything hexadecimal. The hexadecimal "Y", written in binary format, is Y: "kmnp", where "p" is the least significant bit; p=0 --> unicast; p=1 --> multicast; n=0 --> globally assigned MAC; n=1 --> locally administered; So, actually MAC can be changed not only to 12-XX-..., but to any combination in which p=0 and n=1; "Y" can be 2, 6, A or E. I think it can be tweaked in registry, since it apply only to Wireless, not to Ethernet adapters. But I don't have much time to experiment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:MAC_address so any address where the second octet is 2, 6, A, or D should work, everything else should not work as they are either; A) not setting the locally administered bit, or B) setting the multicast bit (should only be done using the sockets multicast API).
