How to boot on Secondary Plex
Hi I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on Disk 0 (WD Caviar Green 2TB) and then mirrored it to disk 1 of the same model , and wait for the disks to sync. When Win 7 was setup, it partitioned Disk 0 as: 100MB for "System"The rest for C: (incl. boot, page file, crash dump) When I test by unplugging disk 0, the system wont boot (to the Boot menu where I can select Windows 7 or W7 Secondary plex) Im not sure If I did something wrong of there's something I could do to boot from disk 1? I though by mirroring ,disk 1 would be exactly identical to disk 0 and should boot normally in case disk 0 failed (or unplugged) Thanks Q PS. I installed W7 while both disks plugged in!

1. Interchange cables or set booting from second disk in BIOS 2. Check if the second disk has active partition set properly. Regards Milos

Hi, To unplug disk 0 and disk 1, and then plug disk 1 into the disk 0 position for testing. May I know what mirror and sync method do you apply? Is it RAID 1? I dont think that simply disk mirror can replace RAID array. Here is RAID array information can be referred to. Im sorry but I dont guess it. When ppl say Mirroring, aren't they referring to RAID 1? I convert disk 0 (System & C partitions) to dynamic, then convert disk 1. In Disk Management, I mirror System partition from disk 0 to disk 1then C partition. I dont think there are more than 1 sync method (in my case)!? Thanks anyway Q

You may have a full system ghost with external disk and restore it to the disk 1. Actually, it is another way mirrioring.Ivan-Liu TechNet Community Support
