How to block commands for word (like bloking save and save as too) in a windows 7 machine
I'd like to know the best way to block some commands in an Office 2007 instalation in a Windows 7 stand alone machine, like blocking the save and save as comands in PowerPoint 2007. I'm posting the question in this forum because I belive the task should be done at the OS level, and not at the app level. I already know that if the machine were in a Domain I could use system policy to block them after importing the office policy, but the point is that it is about a stand alone machine. Any answer will be very welcome. renatoabc

I think this is an Office setting, so ask in the Office forums. You can only change the folder permissions in Windows that the users can't store the data. "A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

If you dont want documents to have changes made (presume this due to disabling the Save/Save As) Could you consider the use of the Office Viewers. These applications allow the office documents to be viewed in much the same way the full product but does not allow alterations. RegardsLee Bowman MCITP MCTS

Heloo Andre.Ziegler, and lee-bowman, Thanks for the replies. I have something to tell to make the situation easier to understand and the problem easier to be solved. Sometime, like 12 years ago, I was given a task, I had to configure Office (maybe 97, or 95, I don't remember) especificaly Word, to be more restricted than the Word Viewer, the docs (forms) could not leave the office. The machines could not print or save the docs, nor save as. Office was installed in a Win Nt 4.0 Terminal Server, and I accomplished my task adding the Office Adm Templates to the Terminal Server System Policy, them I got from the Microsoft Support a list of all the codes for the Word commands (it was something like Save:135, Save as:136, Print:190, for example). After that the only thing I had to do was to insert the codes to be blocked into the Terminal Server System Policy ( after the Office Adm templates were installed). The Office 2010 Adm Templates, that can be installed in a Windows Server System Policy can be found in plain English at: http://technet.microsoft.com/pt-br/library/cc179081.aspx If I were about to enforce the Office restrictions based in a server System Policy I would have gone ahead alone. But the point that made me poste the question here is that it's to be implemented in a Win 7 stand alone workstation, and I need help with this: How to set Security Policies in a machine that is not a part of a domain, and can not benefit from a domain System Policy? It was a long time ago, but the idea is the same today, what is not the same is that today we have Win 7 and I need help in configuring the Win 7 stand alone installation security settings. Hope to hear from you guys soom. renatoabc
