How to activate PNRP protocol on Windows 7 Pro
Hi, I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64bits and my computer belongs to a domain. When I try to activate the service 'Peer Networking Identity Manager', I get a error message : "Windows could not start the Peer Name Resolution Protocol service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied." If I've well understood, it's impossible to use this protocol if my computer belongs to a domain ? I'm really interested to use this protocol on a .NET application (chat). Thank you Jérôme

Hi, “If I've well understood, it's impossible to use this protocol if my computer belongs to a domain ?” Based on my knowledge, this service should be able to start in domain based computer. But domain admin could disable a service or limit it by GPO. Please check the setting of this service: 1. Click Start button, type “gpedit.msc” in Search bar 2. Move to Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Network > Microsoft Peer-to-Peer Networking Services > Peer Name Resolution Protocol 3. Please check the status and let me know the result. Also please try to check the permission of [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\p2pimsvc\Parameters]. The account which be used to start the service hasn’t permission of this key. This problem may occurs. Hi, I don't found the folder 'Policies' but I have tried to turn "Off" the settings "Turn off Microsoft Peer-to-Peer Networking Services" as you can see on the screenshot below : The initial value was "Not configured". The service still doesn't want to start. .... I have tried to change the account that launches the service to "Local Service" but doesn't work too. I tried with my account and doesn't work...I'm administrator of my computer and I can browse the regedit to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\p2pimsvc\Parameters] . Why I don't have the permission ? Regards
