How to access a Locked Folder...?
07/30/12 Hello Ivan-Liu! Thanks for taking the time to review and respond to my posted issue... After attempting to follow your instructions above reagrding folder permissions, here were my results: When right-clicking on the folder in question, (on win-xp home2) I discovered that the created folder does not offer the folder options mentioned above, but DID show that the folder was checked to be able to be SHARED on a network. (I don't remember doing that!) After unchecking this box, or selecting 'Make this Folder Private', and then going to Windows Explorer as suggested, VAVOOM- SUCCESS!!! Yayyyy! My files are back!!! YIPPEE! The folder is totally accessible again, and all of the data is still there. I'm still wondering why hovering the mouse shows 0 files in the folder, when a vipre scan (and a malwirebytes scan) both showed that 79MB of data WAS actually in there... could this be an automatic Windows action executed in order to protect (hide) network files for the user's privacy and safety? If that's the case, there should be a clear explanation somewhere, as I'm sure this issue must have troubled others before, and caused unnecessary folder deletions, with some folks like me thinking (as suggested in other forums) that their data was no longer accessible....but I knew better- and absolutely refused to accept that I needed FBI software, or some other complex and expensive file tool to locate and access these files.. Thank you for providing the correct direction in which to move, which ultimately led to my own discovery of the folder's shared network status..how simple was that? PS: (The directions above probably didn't apply to me because I don't have Windows 7, which is the ofrum I mistakenly posted to, (and for this I apologize)- I didn't see it until after I submitted the post, and I couldn't find a way to re-post this question automatically to a different forum on this site.) again thanks... (You are now leaving the Twilight Zone, (and The Outer Limits), and we will be returning the control of your televison set to you shortly..until next time...gooood-bbbyyyyy!!)

I asked this earlier, but ths page wouldn't let me edit my post, so I'm resending it..correctly, I hope. The folder in question is sitting on the desktop, and was created to hold extra docs, pdfs, mp3s spreadsheets, and text notes. I was in the middle of changing it's name when it locked up a week ago. The text which comes up reads: "cannot delete 'saved data files': (that's the folder name) Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." I didn't delete it because it contains those files mentioned above that I'd like to recover, if possible. But hovering the mouse over the folder shows 0 files in the folder. I downloaded a program called FILE ASSASSIN in order to look at the folder contents decide whether or not to delete it, and this program found 79.0 MB of data (which are the files mentioned above which can't be accessed) still in the folder! File Assassin actually shows the names of the files (my files above) and the icons for the data, but the only action it offers is deleting it.) Next, I ran a Vipre scan for that folder only, which gave me the results here: Files successfully scanned: 220 files Infections: 0 Malware traces: 0 Spware: 0 AND NOW, THE QUESTION: (That no tech support person has yet been able to address or provide a solution to.... HOW CAN THE FILES IN THE FOLDER BE FOUND BY FILE ASSASSIN, AND THEN SCANNED BY VIPRE IF THEY DON'T EXIST? WINDOWS has LOCKED the folder itself, and hovering the mouse shows NO DATA & NO FILES IN THAT FOLDER? (you're traveling through another dimension..without sight and sound...your next stop..(yeah you guessed it) THE TWILIGHT ZONE! or rather the Cyber-zone-where are my files?) Summary Question: Should I just let File Assassin or Unlocker delete this pesky folder, and just forget all about ever regaining access to my poor files? Thanks- no action on this pending your response.. gc 07/28/12

Hi, You may check the folder permission first, and try to get the ownership of the folder. Meanwhile, you could have a clean boot and try again. Here is one atricle can be referred to.
