How to Update Enhanced USB Drivers, Without Losing USB Keyboard & Mouse Connectivity?
I have several Intel motherboard-based systems, all without PS/2 connections; therefore, all keyboards and mice are connected, via enhanced USB or USB 2.0 ports. So, whenever I attempt a driver update to the enhanced USB ports, I lose connectivity to my keyboard and mouse, forcing me to pull the power on my systems, to reboot and install the new drivers. How can I update the enhanced USB drivers, without forcing a “hard” shutdown and without losing connectivity to my USB-based keyboard and mouse? Thank you.1 person got this answerI do too

Hello, Syed N:Please, see my response, below, within your message. Thank you!Hi Voltron-IU, · What are you referring to when you say “enhanced drivers”? Within the XP Device Manager applet, under the PCI devices, "Enhanced USB Drivers," signifying the USB 2.0 drivers. · Are you updating the drivers or the software for the keyboard and mouse? Yes, I am updating the chipset/motherboard drivers for these hardware devices, which are using the USB 2.0 ports. · Is there any specific reason for you to do this? I am conducting routine maintenance on Intel-based systems and using Intel's chipset drivers, to update all chipset/motherboard drivers, of which the USB drivers, including the USB 2.0 or Enhanced USB Drivers are included. · What is the make of the keyboard and mouse you are using? This behavior has occurred with every system I have updated, regardless of the make and model of keyboard and mouse, so long as they are connected to the USB ports. I do not experience any problems updating the other USB-based devices, within the Device Manager; the problem only happens whenever I update the "Enhanced USB Drivers" or USB 2.0-based drivers. I have been able to update such drivers on systems that are using PS/2 keyboards and/or mice, without losing said connections; of course, this is because such updates are not affecting such hardware. However, as most modern systems are not using such hardware, I expect this problem to become more prevalent. So, I am curious to know how to get around this. Majority of the Keyboards and Mice are Plug and Play devices which don`t actually need any drivers to be updated unless otherwise stated.
