How to Remote Desktop from a (single monitor) laptop client to a multimonitor target machine without destroying the running applications' window positions?
Hi, This might be a simple question, since I think it is a common problem, but I could not find a solution via web research. The multiple monitor feature of the Remote Desktop talks only about the case when the client machine has multiple monitors. My case is the opposite. I use a computer at my workplace with multiple (3) monitors, which I usually leave there sleeping. When I'm away from the office, but need something that is on my office computer, I wake it up and Remote Desktop to it from my Laptop over OpenVPN. It works fine, except for a very annoying thing, namely that a session like that totally destroys the carefully set window positions of the running applications on the Office machine. This means, that when I sit back to my office computer, I find maximized applications being still thinking that they are maximized, although being smaller (sized as my laptop screen), apps that were open on the secondary display, are on the primary, etc. (The laptop of course has a single screen with smaller resolution than each of the multiple monitors of my office machine). I run Windows 7 Professional on the Office machine, and Windows 7 Home on my laptop. There must be a simple solution. Please let me know. Thanks, Istvan
