How to REPLACE a SYSTEM FILE?
I need to replace a file ( floppy driver ) which is located in a system folder : Windows\Sytem32\Drivers.I've used DR-DOS from the boot disk made by NERO 9 ==> I am not allowed not even to view the Windows folders.I've made a sytem bootable disk Bart PE using the last program from Bart site. I don't know how to see my local disks ( C: or D: ) using Bart PE.Thanks for help

Do you need to replace a driver or can you have multiple registered drivers? I'd suggest potentially renaming the original driver and keeping both registered.

Dutchie,I have an external (USB) floppy disk unit which was working fine when installed Windows 7 for the first time. Now, installing for the second time the OS, I have found that the device manager is showing me this device NEC USB F000x with a yellow mark and a note : Device cannot start (code 10). Digging on these forums, I've found an aswer to my issue : I have to replace the driver sfloppy.sys with an old one from Vista or XP. My big problem is that I don't know how to make this replacement, because it supposes a deletion first, before the copying. And the OS does not allowed me to delete / rename any of its system files.I have tried to boot using DR-DOS (a DVD burned with Nero 9). The DR-DOS is not seeing the system folder.I have used the Bart-PE system. Without succes. That is way I am asking how to delete a system file.Thank you

Llyne,Indeed, I can boot with a boot disk from any version of Windows. As you are saying, it is possible also to make a boot disk even from Windows 98. If my motherboad still recognizes this OS.My references to the said software were made just to underline that I am a stupid man who does not know how to use this software to solve a small problem.Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Finally I've solved the problem.1-st Step : activate the administrator account. From a line commander (opened / ran as administrator ) type : NET USER ADMINISTRATOR /ACTIVE:YESLog off and at restart log on again as administrator. If this is the first time, be patient because the OS will "arrange" your desktop.2-nd Step : open Windows Explorer, go to the system folder and point to the file you want to delete /rename. Click PROPERTIES, thenSECURITY TAB, then ADVANCED. Here you click on OWNER TAB, then EDIT , then under "change Owner to : " click on OTHER USERS OR GROUPS. Here click on ADVANCED, after on FIND NOW andhereselect the administrator and final OK and after APPLY. Pay attention : select administrator NOT administratorS ! You'll see a pop-up window saying you just taken ownersip of this object (the file) and you need to close the object properties. Click OK.3-rd Step : reopen the file PROPERTIES tab and then SECURITY TAB whereafter EDIT and choose Administrator and here set FULL CONTROL at permissions. Finally click OK. Now you can delete / rename the file.If there is a driver (Microsoft one) you must delete also the file existing in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERSTORE\FILEREPOSITORY\...kind of device...\file.sys, using the above method. Also , look for other copies of the system file (for example on C:\WINDOWS\LASTGOOD\.... ) using FIND function. Also, do not forget todeactivate the administrator account. You do not need it for your daily purposes.Florin

I need to replace a file ( floppy driver ) which is located in a system folder : Windows\Sytem32\Drivers. I've used DR-DOS from the boot disk made by NERO 9 ==> I am not allowed not even to view the Windows folders. I've made a sytem bootable disk Bart PE using the last program from Bart site. I don't know how to see my local disks ( C: or D: ) using Bart PE. Thanks for help instead of using the DR-DOS disk of nero9 use the Vista or Win7 bootable disk and boot from it. when "install Now" windows comes, here chose for 'Repair you PC" option that is just at the left bottom of this window. you will be now on "System Recovery Option" window. Here there would be two option to tick. tick the first option which reads "Use recovery tools......... ..... ..... operating system to repair." and click on next. now you will be on "chose a recovery tool" window. Here click on "Command Prompt" option (the last option) now you are in "Administrator's Command Prompt". here you can delete any file and folder, even the system files and folders because here your operating system (default or any other) is not in use. simple. just go to the folder where your subject files are and delete/copy it by using the DOS command of delete for files and RD for directory. or, use a full path command to execute the deletion of the files or removal of the folders. with this trick/ method, u can even format your all the partitions including the system partition. when ever u find any file or folder be locked or be used by your OS which as per logic is stopping you to delete then use this method and do what ever u want to do with those files and folders. No restriction here. All commands and ownership in your hand with unlimited privilege. by this method u can see all your drives on the PC. Even if u do not have win7 DVD does not matter as in win7 there is inbuilt feature of "repair your PC". Just you need to reboot the system and press "F8" key continuously till booting mode window appears. here the first option is for "repair your windows/PC" select it and press enter. and on the next to next to next window you will get the option of "Command Prompt". click on this "command Prompt" and enter into command prompt and rest you know what to do. Enjoy.
