How to Disable Registry and Folder Virtualization
Is is possible to disable Folder virtualization without disabling UAC?I thought the setting was in LOCAL SEC POLICY, but after disabling UAC: DISABLE FOLDER... VIRUTALIZATION ON FAILURE (or something similar) and rebooting I still found that changed to C:\PROGRAM FILES was being virtualized into my profile.I have more than one older (custom built) FoxPro database stored with apps in C:\PROGRAM FILES and having it virtualized causes enormous and repeated problems. Any assistance would be appreciated Ian Matthews www.commodore.ca

Have you tried the Application Compatibilty Toolkit?http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=24DA89E9-B581-47B0-B45E-492DD6DA2971&displaylang=enKerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Hi Kerry;I had not tried that kit but I have to think that Virtualization is a Registry entry. I need to be able to push this setting to many machines so doing it desk to desk with the ACKit is not going to be practical.Surely this is a ready way to disable Reg/File Virtualization... and if not, MS should add one prior to RTM. Thanks for the suggestion all the same. Ian Matthews www.commodore.ca

Ian,Don't underestimate the power of ACT. Ifthere isa way to fix the application by using a shim(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shim_(computing)). You can silentlydeploy fixeswith the sdbinst.exe command to as many pc's as you want. An other solution is add the foxpro database extension to the following key.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Luafv\Parameters\ExcludedExtensionsAddThis should exclude the foxpro databases form the file virtualization.More info is aviable in this wonderfull article of Mark R. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc138019.aspx.Can you check if this works for you?Kind RegardsDFT

I will take note of that key and I thank you for the information. I was unaware of it. However, I do not want to spend time building a shim for each custom product. There should be a GUI method of disabling Reg and Folder Virtualization. Ian Matthews www.commodore.ca
