How often Previous Versions are created?
Hi,I have a drive with the System Protection ON, It seems that the Previous Versions (restore points) are created every 8 days! instead of every day! (screen shot)from: System Restore: frequently asked questions:Restore points are created automatically every day, and just before significant system events, such as the installation of a program or device driver. You can also create a restore point manually.from Windows Help: Previous versions are automatically saved as part of a restore point. If system protection is turned on, Windows automatically creates previous versions of files and folders that have been modified since the last restore point was made. Typically, restore points are made once a day. What is the problem? The SR task in Task Scheduler have the Daily trigger enabled (at 12:00pm every day). (Windows 7 Ultimate x64)Regards,Parham.

Hi there, Yes, it’s strange. Based on my understanding, restore point should be created every day and previous versions are automatically saved as part of a restore point. I’ve noticed that the drive in screenshot is “CDP Drive (F:)”, I assume it’s an external HDD. Do you find the same “previous versions” issue in your internal HDD, e.g. C drive? Meanwhile, I would like to know if you have connect the CDP Drive on other PC. Since restore points are created differently in different OS. If you have a dual-boot configuration and you use it on an earlier version of Windows, the earlier version will delete restore points by mistake. Additional, external HDD is not always connected to your PC, it may also cause mistiming count issue

System Restore in Windows Vista creates a checkpoint every 24 hours if no other restore points were created that day. System Restore in Windows XP creates a checkpoint every 24 hours of absolute time.PS: System Restore: frequently asked questions for Windows 7 did not contain this info yet:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/System-Restore-frequently-asked-questions

Also... a previous version 'shadow copy' of a file is only created if the file has changed since the last shadow copy. If this was helpful, please vote by clicking the green triangle. If it solves the issue, click Propose as Answer. Thanks!

For me, if those files were important ones and I would like to backup them every day, I will save them to my internal HDDs and create a scheduled daily Backup. What do you think about it?
