Check at a memory configurator site such as Crucial.com, if you no longer have access to the documentation that came with your system (which should have this information). I tried 4 of the 5 Pavillion 5300 models listed there and they all maxed out at 128 MB. Clearly, something doesn't jive and you likely need to be more precise with the make/model of your system.

How much you can make effective use of depends onwhat applications you run, but most people running XP with a typicalrange of business applications will see little or no performanceimprovement by going from 1GB to 2GB. -- Ken BlakePlease Reply to the Newsgroup Ken Blake

it is to me that having a somewhat of a small hard drive implies you may not have super large programs installed that create super large files that require large amounts of memory.it sounds confusing but there are programs that are graphic intensive, like photoshop and others. they will create very large files, up to 80 megabytes while in the drafting / designing phase. further, there are computer games that are also graphic intensive.such programs would require additional ram.however, the better solution would be to install a graphics card which will have built in memory and give your system the added memory to run graphic intensive programs.db`...> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com "share the nirvana mann" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > >
