Hi

You have only one CMS database for your entire Lync topology. You can create other databases in different pools but these will not hold the CMS database itself. You create these for failover scenarios and migrate the CMS database from the primary SQL instance to your backup one if the primary failed.

The CMS database holds all centrally managed data for your Lync topology, this is replicated to each front end server that also hold a local copy using SQL Express. In the event of an outage to the CMS database users would continue to work in full functionality mode for up to 30 minutes before entering limited functionality mode. This gives you time to move your CMS to a healthy SQL server.

thanks

Hi,

One Lync Server environment only have one CMS database, CMS operates in a single master/multiple replica system. In every Lync Server 2010 deployment there is only a single master CMS and all servers running Lync Server 2010 have a local replica of CMS. All updates to information in CMS takes place at the master. The information is then replicated to all replicas. We will discuss how the replication works in the section How does CMS replicate.
