I have been using Android and iOS devices. I really have not cared how they sleep, because it is transparent. That is, I as the user, do not need to care about whether it is on or sleep, because if I play a music or connect to a messenger, they keep playing or stay connected even though I turn off the screen.
Now, traditional desktop Windows determines idle time by keyboard/mouse input. If there is no keyboard/mouse input, the computer sleeps no matter how many CPU-intensive applications are running, unless the application explicitly prevents the system from sleeping. Unlike Android/iOS devices, Windows desktop sleep means stopping everything, as far as I know. It is as if the system is turned off, but the RAM content is being preserved.
I am curious about how Windows tablets (not RT, but real Windows 8.1) behave. If I turn off the screen, the system sleeps as in the sense of desktop Windows? Or do they work like Android/iOS devices?
In short, do Windows 8.1 tablets sleep in a special way, or in the tradition desktop way?
