How do I turn off family safety?
I enabled it on my daughters computer, and now every time she boots her computer it asks for my family safety password. And if I'm not there to enter it, then she can't use her laptop. I logged on to my administrator account on her laptop and went into the Control Panel, clicked "Setup parental controls for any user", selected her account, and clicked the "Off" radio button under "Parental Controls", yet when she logs into her account, it still asks for my password. How do I shut family safety off?Thanks,--Jeremy

The problem isn't that I've forgotten my password, the problem is that if I'm not home and my daughter wants to use her computer, she can't without me there. My question is how do I turn off family safety? Thanks, --Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, I had also posted the link on how to remove Family Safety program, for your convenience, I'd like to post it below: Uninstall Family Safety program and delete settings Only the primary parent (Family Safety users with administrator permissions, able to change Family Safety settings and to add and remove child users. Usually the child user's parent or guardian. The primary parent or guardian can also add and remove secondary administrators.) can delete Windows Live OneCare Family Safetychild safety settings (Customizable settings that help parents to protect children from being exposed to inappropriate web content. For example, parents can limit the contacts allowed in a child's account or block access to specific types of content on the Internet.) from the Family Safety website. Other parents and child (An account holder whose use of the Internet is restricted by Family Safety. Children can't view their own child safety settings.) account holders don't have permission to delete these settings. Family Safety isn't completely deleted until the Family Safety program (Downloaded software that enforces child safety settings and content filtering based on the settings defined on the Family Safety website. Users must sign in to the Family Safety program to use the Internet on the computer that the Family Safety program is installed on.) is uninstalled from every computer on which it was installed. To delete child safety settings for all users associated with the primary parent account: 1. On the Windows Live OneCare Family Safety home page, click Sign in, and then sign in with your Windows Live ID (A user name and password used to sign in to any Windows Live product or service. Family Safety uses the Windows Live ID to identify the person signing in, and to match them with their individual settings. If you have a Passport Network, Hotmail, or Messenger account, you can use it as your Windows Live ID.) . Don't select the Save my password check box. If you do, children will be able to sign in and use your account. 2. In the Family Safety pane, click Updates. 3. Click Delete settings. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. To uninstall the Family Safety program: 1. In Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. or In Windows Vista, click Start, and then click in the Start Search text box. 2. Type appwiz.cpl, and then press ENTER. 3. Next to Windows Live OneCare Family Safety, click Uninstall or Remove. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. 5. When the Family Safety program has been uninstalled, restart your computer.

I followed these steps: In Windows Vista, click Start , and then click in the Start Search text box. 2. Type appwiz.cpl , and then press ENTER. 3. Next to Windows Live OneCare Family Safety , click Uninstall or Remove . 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. 5. When the Family Safety program has been uninstalled, restart your computer. But even though I clicked Uninstall on Windows Live OneCare Family Safety, and rebooted the laptop, the program is still there... Any suggestions? Thanks, --Jeremy

I had the same problem and I just did the following: Click the Start button and select Control Panel Click on Add or Remove Programs (it takes a while to load, so wait a few minutes) Select Windows Live Essentials and click on the Change/Remove button to the right of that row. Select Uninstall and click Continue Click the checkbox next to Family Safety and then click Continue and follow the instructions to uninstall the Family Safety software. You'll need to restart your computer for the uninstall to take effect. Good Luck.

Here it is 2 1/2 years later and this is still an issue. Windows Family Safety simply "isn't there" yet. It is a great idea, but it won't even let us manually update programs for our child; even once we have entered the password and it acknowledges that the settings have been saved. It does not apply those settings. We had to delete his windows User account and start fresh. We've had the same problem with XP, Vista and, now, 7.

We did all of that and restarted multiple times. Still wouldn't work. It's as if someone from above is controlling the parents' Parental Control! ;)

I completely agree. I can't remember my admin password so I cant even uninstall the program. Seems like there should be a password reset option for parents. Am i going to have to perform a computer recovery from a time period before i installed this senseless program?
