How do I tell windows 7 to use my local internet connection instead of going through my VPN connection for internet access?
I have done research on this and did find things about changing the default connection by changing the value in the so that the default gateway would be my local instead of the VPN connection. However, what always happened was that windows 7 knew I couldn't possibly want to do that, and promptly changed it back. (I just now looked for where I had documented what I did, but can't find it just now) why is this a problem? Well, i need to stay connected to VPN for daily work, but once I kick off a largish job, I want to go other places on line. The other day, for example, I needed to FTP some files to another contact and the FTP program would not work. Once I disconnected from the VPN, it worked fine. In other words, FTP was telling the server I was connecting to that I was coming from an unknown IP, the IP of the internal server I access through VPN, and not from my own machine. Also, does this mean all my internet traffic is going through that remote server? Is there any setting in the VPN properties that will tell it not to take over my default gateway?

Hi, A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network that uses a public telecommunication infrastructure such as the Internet to provide remote offices or individual users with secure access to their organization's network. If you don't configure any settings, no internet is available when connecting with VPN. However, you can refer to the following KB to change the settings. If you have any question about the Server, please contact your IT professional to get more information. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317025 Regards NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
