How do I restore my XP backup??
I know this is easily answered, but all I can find on this site is information about Vista backups. I had a problem with my XP computer. I backed up then reformatted or whatever, still using XP, and the backup file is in my hard drive in My Computer containing all the correct information, just how do I restore them to get my computer back to the way it was?5 people need an answerI do too

Yes, that is exactly what I need. However I cannot expand "File" in the backup window. Also, my backup folder as well as everything in it are not saved as a .bkf, which is apparently what the Restore program needs. How do I get Restore to recognize my backup folder as the place to take everything from?

What backup software did you use to create the backup file, as windows ntbackup will read it's own files, but not something created by another piece of software.

I used whatever came with the XP CD. When I put it in to reload XP I used the option it gave me to reload after backing up. Now I have a file called "My Backup [date and time]" in my C: drive.Since thisseems to begetting kind of complicated, all I care about is my music; is there a way to restore maybe just iTunes to how it was, including music and how it was all labelled?

My issue is essentially the same...I backed up to a portable hard disk using XP Backup/Restore utility, then Ihad to replace my hard drive. After reinstalling XP and all the other applications I attempted to restore from the backup and the file will not open and expand so I can make my restore selections. Thanks for any and all assistance.

Microsoft has made available the Windows NT Backup Restore Utility for Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008 R2 and is available to download via Microsoft Download Center. Windows NT Backup Restore Utility restores backups that are made on Windows XP to computers that are running Windows 7. The utility comes in handy if you have moved from Windows XP to Windows 7.
