How do I reset administrator for msconfig
Whenever I go to start > msconfig and alter my start up menu to reduce cpu consumption it somehow does not recognize that I am the administrator and then accepts my changes. How does it get reset so that it recognizes that I am the administrator and stops producing this error? 1 person needs an answerI do too

perhaps, your security software is not allowing the registry to be modified. so you might try to do it via safe mode. -- db`...><)))> ."needhelpwithwindowsxp" wrote in message news:e89a7c77-5c87-48ed-97ef-1aa7c5e6774f...Whenever I go to start > msconfig and alter my start up menu to reduce cpu consumption it somehow does not recognize that I am the administrator and then accepts my changes. I am able to change my start up programs by going to start > run and entering msconfig. The problem is the error message that pops up. It still does what I want it to do after a fresh boot. I think the problem is related to the need to restore my user name. Whenever I reboot my computer (not after using msconfig) I always logoff and then log back on. I have to do this if I want to view all of the icons in the lower right hand corner of the task bar. For some unknown reason it will display all the icons when I log off and then log back on after a fresh boot but not on just a fresh boot. So there may be some typ of conflict or software malfunction that needs to be reset and maybe resetting one may correct the other?

yeah, there is logic to with your observation. you see, there can be startups inside the msconfig that are running not only for the current user but all users too. so it is best to log in as an administrator to ensure your changes will apply to both the current user and the all users. in regards to logging in and out, this only resets the registry partially. it is also better to do a full reboot. lastly, if you still have trouble in normal mode, then log in as administrator via safe mode to make system changes.-- db`...><)))> ."needhelpwithwindowsxp" wrote in message news:dca2d0df-b092-4be7-864e-60fc387f4c06...I am able to change my start up programs by going to start > run and entering msconfig.
