Best bet would be to contact Dell to either get a Windows disc or for instructions on how to restore via the recovery partition that you may/may not have.

Jhonatan,I assume you upgraded the orginal installation, rather than installing Windows 7 alongside it? If you upgraded, when you reboot the PC, is there an option to reboot from a recovery partition? This is the approach favoured by some hardware vendors (e.g. Lenovo). I think Dell normally provide a CD/DVD for restore. If you installed side by side, then you should be able to boot the original (XP or Vista) OS, then use this to delete the Windows 7 directory and also restore the boot partition to the original state Utilities like EasyBCD can also help.I know this is a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted but Windows 7 is beta (i.e. test) software and should only be installed on a system where you are ready to lose everything :-(Finally, you said that installing Windows 7 has "completely crashed" your computer. Can you be more specific and we might be able to work out what is happening?MarkMark Wilson (MVP Virtual Machine) - http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/

While the Dell logo is on the screen pres the Ctrl key and the F11 key at the same time. You may have to tap the F11 key a few times while holding down the Ctrl key. This should get you to the Dell factory restore screen. From there you can return the computer to the state it shipped from the factory. This will erase everything on the hard drive. If you have data you don't want to lose you may want to call in a professional to backup your data first. You would have to boot from a Live Linux CD or a Windows PE boot CD and copy the data to external media. If Ctrl-F11 doesn't work you'll have to contact Dell to get the factory restore media.Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

It sounds more like Mr. Oliveira had a hardware crash which probably isn't related to trying the Windows 7 beta.

I agree with FROP-sounds like a hardware issue You need to figure out what is working and what appears to not be working and then post that so all can advise. Is is a loss of screen image and all works? or it does nothing? Although, not to beat you up, it sounds like you jumped in a bit quickly on doing the Win 7 Beta install and might be paying the price.DaveThe seeds of today are the flowers of tomorrow

I agree with the others, expand on Crashed. There are a lot of very smart people here that will try to help, given the right information to do so. Before doing anything else though, I would get a boot disk andcopy any wanted data to external storage. BartsPE or a Linux boot disk would work great. And if not sure about data loss and such, buy a new hard disk, they're cheap these days and start from scratch. You can always put the other disk in later and work with data retrieval then. You can get a restore disk from Dell, they may charge you something for it, but it will get you going. I know a lot of their systems now come with a restore partition and no CD/DVD to restore from. But, if that partition is damaged or missing then you have a problem on your hands and you'll need the disk.As has been stated, don't put this OS on a system that you need or have data on. Consider it disposable. It's BETA and expect the unexpected. Dual boot works well, or buy a second drive and install it there and then play away. Scott

Hi guys,Just for your info, I bought last month a Dell XPS 630i and saw that there was a recovery partition but with only 2GB, I called Dell and I was told that all 64 bits system dont have the recovery partition, maybe later i guess.I sure wonder why they put in a 2GB partition with nothing in it.Claude
