How do I increase speed & performance of WindowsXP using a hard drive designed for Windows98?
What are ALL OPTIONS (on my computer or downloadable) I can do to increase speed and performance to use my pc "normally" while online? My hard drive was designed for Windows98 (model: Hewlett Packard 6740C), however, it has been updated with WindowsXP. Although I am connected to DSL/BROADBAND (Phone Line), my pc runs "extremely slow" especially once I go online. What can I do to increase speed and performance to use my pc "normally" while online?I use DiskCleanup and DiskDefragmentor regularly, as well as, Windows Updates are automatic daily. In addition, I use Internet Options and clear all possible history, files it allows. What additional options are there to solve this issue? How do I get faster response and quicker website load times and prevent "lag" while online? Are there programs I can delete/add so I can actually use the pc I have without taking an aluminum bat solution? lolIm a "novice" and would appreciate help you would be free to give that will solve this issue. Thank you in advance for your help.

MyquestionsMyanswers, According to this HP document, that specific computer ships with 64 MB of SDRAM. Upgrading this to the maximum 512 MB of SDRAM would make a HUGE performance difference. For more information on this, see the following link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph03886&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=61009. It may be worth contacting a local computer professional for assistance on finding and installing the correct RAM. It's important to note that upgrading a computer of this age may have negative effects. It's very possible that there is a piece of hardware failing and it may not be worth the investment of upgrading.
