How do I get a Windows 7 DVD, when I have a licens
Hello, I bought an Acer Aspire 5800 M5800 with Windows 7 preinstalled mid November 2009.It is working nicely and I have no major problems with that PC now.BUT I realise that the disks which came with the machine is not just the Windows system disk but a rescue-set designed for disaster situations, where you want to have the PC back as bought. I will loose all files etc.I have several experiences with Vista PC's going down andbeing easily repaired by indserting the system-dvd and choosing "Repair".So I would realy want to have a similar "clean" windows 7 system dvd at hand.

Hello Raadighed, Have you attempted to contact Acer for this disk? Usually the computer manufacturer should have these disks off hand. You might want to check with them first, and if they can't assist you, then see what other options Microsoft has for you. What I can do is move this topic over to the Windows 7 forum page to assist with getting the correct answer or resolution. Thanks, Donte

Hello Donte, Thank you for the respons. I have contacted Acer twice, and both supporters tell me, that its not possible.I suspect it's because of company policy. From the store, where I bought the PC, I got three disk's which, I was told, could bring the PC back as bought, i.e. without any file of mine. That is not exactly what I am after. So any help would be very much appreciated. Best regards Henrik P.S. It is the 64 bit version.

Best regards Henrik Hi Henrik When you purchase a system with Windows pre-installed, the OEM System Builder (Acer) assumes all responsibility for supporting Windows on that system. This includes providing backup media, alternate installation media, technical support, etc. This is described in the Windows 7 EULA (End User License Agreement) that you will find on your system. It is located here: C:\Windows\System32\License.rtf Hope this helps. Thank You for using Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Hi Ronnie, Well, I wonder if it helps when I contact Acer once more. But I wonder, if another approach would be more simpel. After havin tried Windows 7 for a few weeks, I bought an upgrade disk to my wife's PC. Could that disk possibly contain a full window 7 installation disk which - using the product key on my PC - could do the repair job on my PC, too?? Best regards,Henrik

Best regards,Henrik Hi Henrik I would not recommend using a retail upgrade disk to repair your computer. There are a couple of reasons. 1. Your OEM product key would not work with the retail version and you could have problems activating after the repair install. 2. Using a non-OEM disk to perform a repair could void the warranty on the Acer system. Hope this helps. Thank You for using Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Hi Raadighed, As Ronnie said, this OEM copy of Windows 7 came from Acer. Acer should provide you the Windows 7 OEM installation disk. If they cannot provide you the disk, you may consider to create a System Image. For more information, you may refer to the following link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/What-is-a-system-image Regards, Arthur Li - MSFT

Hi Arthur Li, I will approach Acer once more. I have had a glance at the System Image, and I think the Acronis True Image 2010 gives me the same PLUS some extras?? Regards Henrik
