How do I force Internet Explorer to open files with the default program in Windows 7?
I am using a web based Oracle application that has a view output button. This output can be either a .out or .tsv file (these essentially are text files). Previously, under Windows XP sp3 I could configure the output to open in an application of my choosing from IE7. Now, under Windows 7 sp 1 and IE8 these file extensions open within Internet Explorer. Also, under Windows 7 default programs I have associated these file extensions with my preferred text editor (Textpad). If I save a .out file locally and then open it Textpad opens as expected. How can I change the IE8 behavior to use my selected default program?

You can use this tool: http://defaultprogramseditor.com/ to change the file association. André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Check my HowTo: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=150221

Andre, thank-you for responding but, this didn't fix the problem. I am able to use the tool to associate .out files with a text editor called Textpad. If the .out file is opened from a network location or from the C: drive it opens in Textpad just like I want. However, the problem is that I am using a web based Oracle application. The web interface to the Oracle application has a button called "view output" which generates a .out file. This file is recognized by Internet Exlorer as a text file and opens it within another browser window. I want it to open with Textpad because Textpad is configured to format the .out file properly. How can I get IE to stop opening these files within another browser and allow Textpad which is associated with .out files to open?
