How do I defragment an Outlook .pst file?
Hey guys,I am using Microsoft XP SP3 with Microsoft Outlook 2007 installed. When I defragment my computer, every month or so, the only file that cannot be defragged is a 2.06 GB .pst file that Microsoft Outlook has. I've tried other online solutions for defragging a .pst file, but none of them work. It's a nuisance to see that my computer is not fully defragged because of this one .pst file, and also I've noticed that Outlook is running a little bit slower because of it.So, if you guys have some ideas on how to defrag a .pst file, let's have em!Thanks so much!1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi,Try copying the .PST file off the HDD onto an external storage device such as a USB Flash Drive or network share. Then, delete or rename the original file, reboot, and then copy the original file back. See if it can be defragged then. If you already did this, let me know.

I guess you dont use the Archive options and have not compacted your pst either. Defrag is not going to make any noticible difference to Outlook performance

Jaycee - I have tried that and it did not work. I actually tried it twice, as this was the most common answer I could find online.Palcouk - I will try this, but I've never understood exactly what "Archive" means. Can I still access old emails simply by clicking them in Outlook, or will I have to locate them in an archived folder to view them? Stupid question, I know. Thanks guys!

Archive creates a seperate Archive data file which can be opened in Outlook, just like any other data file, and remain open. Msgs / data is then available
