How do I change my startup sound in Windows 8.1

hi, Does any one know how to change your startup sound in Windows 8.1?

I did it in XP not to long ago and i really dont like the windows 8 startup sound.

Windows 8.1 is no longer about doing what YOU want, it's about doing what Microsoft wants.

But I think you can change the .wav file that's used for the startup sound by altering this registry key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ AppEvents \ Schemes \ Apps \ .Default \ WindowsLogon \ .Current]

Once you check the box, it looks like the (Default) value is:

%SystemRoot%\media\Windows Logon.wav

I'm assuming you can change this registry value to identify whatever you like, though I wouldn't be surprised if some parts of the system change it back (e.g., the selection of a theme).  That said, the Windows startup sound is conspicuously absent from the .Theme file that's saved when you save your current theme, even though other sounds are in there.

Good luck.  Please post back if you find the changing of the above registry key to work.

Thank you for this manual.

I can change registry key, but this is only for logon sound not for startup sound. I can only set to play startup sound in the sound settings but I don't know where I can change this sound - its same sound like in Win7.

And where I can turn on/off logon sound ?

Info:

Audio files in WAV are saved in "C:\Windows\Media"

go to sounds in sound manager and choose your sound, or check the startup sound.

Right click on the speaker in task manger, goto sounds, then choose sounds

Colakid, don't forget to mention that we need to use the magnifier in order for the filename to fit inside the data entry box.

I hope whoever voted you up twice for that will vote me up for this.

Ethan Thanks for your post and never listen to some people unless you get a full reply from a qualified Microsoft poster, or ask some questions before doing. I've seen plenty having to try to undo what some have mentioned. Noel only did one thing wrong, not telling you to back up your registry and how to do that, he is very knowledgeable but sometimes he assumes people are as qualified as himself.

Try for yourself

I did.  It was brilliant.  Took a lot of magnifying to get Startup.wav to fit in the data entry box though.

Oh.  You mean your second idea?  That one didn't work at all.  Did you try it?

Now that I shrunk it back down, I can't hardly hear it.

I know where I can turn on STARTUP sound but I don't know where I can change it.

Its a difference between STARTUP sound and LOGON sound, STARTUP is played when Windows start and LOGON played always when you login to your profile. I thing.

Do you not still understand, here I'll write what windows modify/windows change themes means for you, clearly they are highlighted for easy viewing for you, look little closer. If you still don't understand I'll show you. Also if you have fastboot enabled windows start sound does not happen

Ooh, he's learned how to make extra categories show in the Sounds panel that most folks don't see!  How exciting!

Does that satisfy your craving for attention?

Colakid, you're clearly getting a case of cabin fever up there.  I suggest going on a long hike and getting some fresh air.

By the way normal people see this in Windows 8:

You are getting off topic. I seem to change the startup sounds. Your post did not do nothing.

I am using windows 95 theme at startup. Do you want me to write you a howto

Not in the slightest.  I have no need nor desire for an alternate theme, I like my desktop just as it is.  But I have no problem with you changing your theme.  Do you break system protection in order to achieve it, or have you discovered the method for replacing a Windows 8.1 theme without doing so?
