How do I allow a VPN connection (Cisco Client) from Laptop 2 to use ICS on Laptop 1 to connect to the VPN Server?
Hello All, Complicated problem. I have two laptops. Laptop 1 is running Windows 7 and can connect to the internet. Laptop 2 has a Cisco VPN client and must be connected to Laptop 1 via the LAN port for the VPN client to work properly. I have enabled ICS on Laptop 1 and removed all firewall barriers, but any attempt to connect via the Cisco VPN on Laptop 2 to the VPN server doesn't work (412 error, destination host unreachable). I can't change the configuration of Laptop 2. I do note that Laptop 2 has acquired a valid IP address (Laptop 1 is 192.168.137.1, Laptop 2 is 192.168.137.100). Now, in the past I have had this work just fine using a Mac with their connection sharing methods, so I'm wondering if Windows 7 can provide a similar level of network sharing prowess? Cheers, ed.

Hi, Error 412: it means that the software VPN client detected that the VPN server does not respond and has deleted the connection. Based on my experience, Cisco VPN Client can work with Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) installed on different machines. How did you remove firewall barriers? I suggest you turn Windows Firewall off for test. Meanwhile, this could be related to hardware firmware, please update network card driver and router firmware to check how it works.
