How can one add dial up statistics to the task manager?

In Windows 8.1, Task Manager shows the real time Utilization & the Utilisers  of CPU, Disk & Network (only Mobile Broadband) under Process Tab and under Performance tab it shows the Total Utilization graph of CPU, Disk, Wi-Fi & Mobile Broadband (Only When Connected). But, in both places the Activates of a dial up internet connection (Connected to Internet) is not shown.

Please Help..!

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

What's the meaning of "the Activates of a dial up internet connection"? Please give us more specific information like it appear in Windows 7 as ** or some screenshot.

Dial-up network is Metered networks, it will show the charge for the amount of data uploaded and downloaded.

You could open the Resource Monitor to see if it meet your requirement:

Thanks for the reply mr. karen hu,

You have said in your reply that resource monitor could meet my requirements, off course, it will fulfill the requirements. but a standard user cannot access the resource monitor without admin credentials.

Even though you can set up a schedule task for the standard user to run it without credentials, but it leave at a risk that a standard user could end process of a essential application (remembering that a standard user can not start or resume a process, but could end one and that could also be started by default in the next start-up), So it would be safe to have them do their monitoring within the task manager itself, for which they have access by default

My Query is that task manager in windows 8.1 does not allow user to monitor dial-up network data transfer or the app that is currently utilizing it. The point is it allows to monitor Wi-Fi and Mobile Broadband data transfer and the apps consuming it, it should be capable of allowing a user to monitor dial-up network connection too, since its not, this seems to be a little drawback.

I am asking is there any workaround that allows to show the dial-up connection data transfer in the task manager itself.

Expecting a solution,

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

Yes, standard user have no permission to access Resource Monitor.

In Task Manager, there indeed no section for dial-up network connection. So far, there is no workaround. If you want to run some network monitor tool, it will require admin permission.

Use right-click Properties, Status and get the statistics there.  Status is a default, so you can just double-click it.  And it is a dynamic display too.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, Mr.Robert Aldwinckle,

The Status tab in the properties of the dial-up network connection in Network and Sharing Center only shows the total bytes sent & received as well as the total current rate of transfer, but I was looking for a workaround that allows a standard user to view in the task manager the data transfer rate of individual apps that were utilizing the dial-up network (right now standard user can view in the task manager the data transfer rate of individual apps that were utilizing the mobile broadband & Wi-Fi networks only).

And it seams, as of now, as posted by Karen Hu, there is no workaround to get this done.

Lets hope the future release of Windows i.e., Windows 10 would felicitate this.

Thanks for the effort.
