It sounds as though the wireless adapter is missing/disabled. Click the Windows Orb (Start), type devmgmt.msc and press Enter. Expand Network Adapters and check that a wireless adapter is listed.

You're going to have to install the correct wireless driver (would need your SN of your machine to do this but you can do it) to know which wireless card you have. However this laptop did NOT meet Windows 7 compatiblity list by Dell and therefore Windows 7 isn't recommended for this machine. You only have Windows XP drivers available which means you'll have to install this driver in XP compatibility mode for any chance at successfully connecting wirelessly.drivers for your laptop are here http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_6000&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=To install in XP compatibility mode see this link http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/80cae5ee-dc98-4a2f-8284-a1ab826059b7MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Once the compatible wireless driver is installed, you can refer to this website to set up the wireless network: Setting up a wireless network.
