How can I restore the onetime activation to close (shutdown) computer.
It has become necessary for me to click on shut down twice before the computer actually shutsdown. I don't know how I caused this but it certainly is frustrating when I forget to click on close twice, and come back a few hours later to find the computer is still on. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to fix this problem?1 person needs an answerI do too

I have used "System Mechanic" and "McAfee" and got an all clear re: malware. It may have started after I downloaded one of those malware scanning programs promoted by online "PC mag." This has been going on for about two weeks. Once in a while the computer shuts down normally as expected, but that is rare when it does. If this is caused by malware it seems to be safe from "McAfee" and "System Mechanic." I hope I can correct this issue without uninstalling and reinstalling "Windows XP."

McAfee is renowned for missing malware - System Mechanic is pretty much useless for anything, IMHO. Please download and install the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (www.malwarebytes.org). Update it and run a quick scan in all user profiles. You could try a System Restore back to a time when the system was behaving normally - you would need to reinstall anything installed since the time to which you restore the system. -- Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth
