How can I hibernate when hybrid sleep is enabled
Hi. I have hybrid sleep enabled, and like it. Some times, I'd like to force the machine to actually hibernate, though. Specifically, when I go to sleep at night, I don't like seeing the blinking power light. Right now, I have no way to do this - if I choose standby, it does to hybrid sleep. (Even pushing the power button will only awaken the machine, not hibernate it!). So, is there anyway to hibernate the machine, short of disabling hybrid sleep?

You can turn off the main power switch. I have my computer connected to a Switched power strip.I put the computer in hybrid sleep (which is sleep as long as the power is connected) then I turn off the power strip and hybrid sleep then transitions to hibernate. It will startup as if it had been hiberbated. That is what hybrid sleep is about.

I had my computer case for 6 years before I discovered that I had the power led plugged in backwards, so I never had a blinking light (or a powered on light).Maybe unpluging the connector to the light would be an alternative to disabling sleep and only using hibernate.

The danger in your approach is that it's easy to make a mistake an pull the main power switch before it's done writing to disk... you can check by looking at the light but it's liable to go wrong.

You can not hibernate with hybrid sleep enabled. If you put the computer to sleep (in hybrid sleep), the disk is written to prior to the computer being shutdown. There is only a small amount of power to the memory. At this point it is save to disconnect the main power.

Hi Nicholas Li and Lead3, I am sorry but you are absolutely incorrect!! You _can_ hibernate with hybrid sleep. Not only does windows do it automatically if you are on a laptop and the battery level goes critical. But you can also assign hibernate to the lid close action and/or power button action while hybrid sleep is enabled. The problem here is one cannot add hibernate to the start menu when hybrid sleep is enable. This should be solved with a simple registry key, yet no one has exposed it. So if you could please research this product feature properly and provide an answer to changing the stat menu behavior, or at least answer the question correctly and accurately next time that would be great! Thanks, Marcus
