How can I get rid of the Welcome screen that now appears when XP boots after installing .NET Framework 1.1?
Since installing Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 on my XP SP3 machine I get the Welcome screen even though I have only one user account with no password. Prior to the installation the PC booted directly to my desktop but now I have to stick around and select my user account before it can complete. MS support article 827072 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827072) appears to clearly explain and propose a resolution for the problem, but after downloading & installing Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 as directed, the problem remains. Being a novice I'm not sure what .Net does so I'm hesitant to install the latest version which appears to be .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Any suggestions??1 person needs an answerI do too

Go to Windows Updates and install the .NET Framework 1.1 patch. This has nothing to do with other versions of .NET Framework as they are separate programs, not updates to 1.1. Or you can use the free TweakUI utility to fix your automatic logon again.
