How can I enable COM 3 in absence of XP Device Manager??
I am trying to set up a friends laptop for dial up connection. Modem tries and gives "No Dial Tone" message. Modem Properties gives modem as working OK and setup on Com 3. Modem troubleshooter suggests Com port may not be enabled. Am unable to check port settings as there is NO entry in Device Manager under "Ports - COM and LPT". Is there a command line alternative, or how do I get the ports entry under Device Manager?? Have tried a reinstall of XP but no difference.Stuart2 people need an answerI do too

There are no entries in the BIOS for enabling/disabling COM ports, so I presume it will be enabled. BIOS is American Megatrends v08.00.11 BIOS Date 02/07/2006. Under Advanced Settings it just has USB config, PS/2 Mouse support, Auto DIM support, DRAM CAS# Latency, Graphic Win Size, and Share memory size.Stuart
