How can I create a startup disk for XP SP3
I have recently had a startup problem with a computer running Windows XP which was originally installed from a SP1a Windows installation disk, and subsequently upgraded to SP3. I tried to restart the computer using the original Windows installation disk, but being only SP1a, it could not properly handle the file system of the large hard disk. To provide for any future need, I would like to make a startup and repair disk on a CD, similar to the repair mode on the original Windows installation CD, but created from the files on my computer, so that it will include the changes made in the Windows file system, etc. up to SP3 Where can I find instructions for making this disk? Thank you OldZ801 person needs an answerI do too

The word "slipstreaming" comes to mind.Consideration:http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1445923&postcount=3There's a complete tutorial in the above posting about Autostreamer which is the easiest. TaurArian [MVP] 2005-2010 - Update Services

Thank you TaurArian for your reply, but it does not seem to be quite what I am looking for. I am not wanting to reload Windows, I only want to be able to start the computer so that I can get in and fix a problem. With slipstreaming, it appears that when that stage is reached, the computer would still be loading SP1a files, hence would not yet have obtained the benefit of the other service packs, with ther ability to handle larger partitions, etc. What I really want is to create a startup disk from within the running Windows program, with repair tools such as CHKDSK, EDIT, etc, which most versions of Windows make provision for, but I cannot find this option on the programmes menu of my Windows XP version. In the past, some of these have been just a CD or floppy disk, whilst others have involved both. Thank you again for your reply OldZ80

Perhaps what you want is the recovery console:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654TaurArian [MVP] 2005-2010 - Update Services

Thank you Taurarian, That is what I was looking for. I apologise for referring to it as Repair mode instead of recovery Thank you again OldZ80
