How can I connect to a Win7 PPTP VPN server? Used to work on XP...
Hi. I just upgraded from XP Pro to Win7 Pro. Very nice. However, I can't get the VPN to work. I have exactly the same settings as I did on XP and I've even disabled my firewalls to check. So - I have the incoming connection set up over the internet and a user for VPN access set-up with granted access to the local network. All of that is fine. I can even connect to the VPN from outside (using a phone or a tablet), but no IP address seems to have been given, so I can't do anything to access services on the LAN. I can't even ping, let alone access shared drives, etc. If I look at "status" on the connected WAN PPTP Miniport, I see no traffic in either direction and I see IPv4 as unconnected. Under details, there's nothing. So - not surprising that I can't access anything! So - what's missing here? What more do I need to do? Under XP, the exact same settings worked perfectly, issued the connecting client an IP address (using DHCP, just as it's set now) and I could access all of the shared devices, etc. Anyone able to offer any help?

Yes, I'm absolutely certain I've done this correctly. It matches completely, I've checked it lots of times and I've done it successfully many times in the past. Also - remember that I can successfully CONNECT to the VPN server. It's just that it's creating an IP address for the incoming connection, so IP traffic isn't possible.

Because no IP address is being created, IP traffic isn't possible, so no - it's not going to be possible to ping anything.
