How can I bypass IE8 when using FTP in Windows 7
Forgive my FRUSTRATION, I've been working on this ALL day... In Windows XP you click Tools, Folder options, file types and you select to open FTP using EXPLORER.EXE. This allows you to BYPASS IE when using FTP. IN windows 7 when you go to program defaults, scroll all the way down to protocols, click ftp and change THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS!!! Internet explorer and thats IT! so to view in explorer you have to first open it in IE then click page then blah blah blah!!! I NEED windows 7 to open FTP DIRECTLY in EXPLORER NOT IE!! My Users have ALWAYS used Explorer for FTP, if you knew my users you would understand the nightmare this is causing for me. any 3rd party ftp client is also out of the question for my users.

If you want to access specific FTP sites, you can always map them to the Explorer navigation tree as a network drive. -- Crash "Facts are stubborn things, but statistics are more pliable." ~ Laurence J. I don't suppose you bothered to look in Help and Support? Search for "FTP." Select the first item in the result: "Work with files on an FTP site." Follow instructions "To create a shortcut to open an FTP site in Windows Explorer." -- Crash "When you get to a fork in the road, take it." ~ Yogi Berra ~

There are so many features missing from Windows 7. To me it is like they are working backwards. It used to be really easy to change file associations... Personally I don't like Windows 7 and would never use it. Thank you dave for locating the "Work with files on an FTP site." Which is actually one of the things I wanted to do but couldn't find the Add network place which also USED to be really easy to find. and yes I did look in help and support I also spent a bunch of time Googling.

Open Windows Explorer, right-click on Computer or Network, and pick Map network drive. Or click on Tools, Map network drive. Or click on Start, right-click on Computer, and pick Map network drive. Pretty simple, and plenty of places to do it. I'm sure there are other ways, but those just came to mind first. SC Tom -There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.
