I have a user with a domain-joined Windows 8.1 Pro workstation. After ten minutes of inactivity, this system blanks the screen. When the user tries to use the computer again, the computer prompts the user to enter a password. This appears to be the only system on our domain that is affected by this issue.
Basically, nothing that I have tried to eliminate this password requirement has worked:
Under PC Settings / Accounts / Sign-In Options, the Password Policy is "Password required when waking this PC from sleep." I can change that to "Password is not required when waking this PC from sleep", but the setting reverts after a system reboot.
Under Control Panel / Power Options, under the "Require a password on wakeup" option, I can set the option to "Don't require a password", but again, the setting reverts after a reboot.
I can find nothing in the Local Security Policy or any applied domain-based Group Policy objects that would be enforcing these settings.
The device connects to an on-premise Exchange 2007 e-mail server. I have seen indications that the issue the user is experiencing may be due to Exchange Active Sync policies being applied to the device, with a recommendation to go to Control Panel / Users and use the "Reset security policies" link. However, this link / feature does not appear to be present on a domain-joined Windows 8.1 Pro workstation. Also, in examining the EAS policies on the internal Exchange server, I see nothing that should be causing such a setting to be applied to this device. (Also, the device in question does not appear as a managed mobile device under the user's Exchange account.)
I (and the user!) am at my wits' end with this issue. Can anyone suggest some way of configuring this computer so that it is not prompting the user for a password every 10 minutes?
