I just installed my first Win7 64bit Ultimate desktop into a 2003SP2 Server domain. I created a Standard user account on the domain controller and applied all of the Microsoft security patches from Windows Update to the Win7 PC using the local account that I created during the OS install before I started anything. I joined the domain, and logged into the Win 7 machine using the Standard user account. When I try to install software, I do not get prompted for the domain Administrator credentials (in order to temporarily escalate user privileges). Instead, I just get an error message "You must be logged in with an Administrator account to perform this operation". This error is on Microsoft Office, HP Printer drivers, and anything I try to install. When I logon with the Domain Administrator account, I can install everything. Is there a registry or policy setting on the local machine that determines whether a user can dynamically request privilege escalation?
