How Many Copies Of TASKHOST.EXE should be running?
I have the taskhost waiting on taskhost shutdown problem. I find that there are two copies of taskhost.exe running and if I manually stop one process with taskmanager then the shutdown/restart works normally. The second copy of taskhost starts
well into the startup process. How many copies is normal and is there a way to monitor programs starting to see which one is associated with the second copy of taskhost starting>
I would like input on how many copies other users find running. Just look at processes with taskmanager and post here how many copies you see.
Thanks. Gene

this depends on the number of tasks which run on your Windows."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Thanks. Just saw a third copy on this boot after an unexpected shutdown. Beginning to suspect hardware problems on this new HP. The third copy was marked local and it shut itself down shorty after the boot. The other two copies are
both marked for my user name. Not much really running and you can't shutdown with both copies running. I am really getting fed up with this machine, can't let it set idle without getting an unexpected shutdown and re-boot. When that happens,
the task host thing doesn't slow it down at all and the but message says that there was an unsuccessful shutdown,etc..
Thanks again Andre.

Run ProcessExplorer and place the mouse over the taskhost.exe to see which tasks are started by this exe."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Thanks Andre,
I ran processorexplorer and there didn't seem to be any programs that I had installed started be either of them. The second copy had a single task, Diagnosticinfastructurcustomhandler.
If I kill either copy of taskhost.exe then the shutdown goes normal. I am not at all sure that a re-install of windows will help. I guess I will have to spend the $$ and ask MS why the hotfix for TaskHost isn't working.Gene
