I am using modern Lync 2013 and it's getting unloaded from memory by Windows every now and then effectively making me offline so that I can no longer receive messages.

Is there any setting to stop Windows from unloading this particular app from memory?

Would you please tell us how did you find the issue cause by the memory unload Lync client software?

Please check if there is any related error message on Event Viewer?

Please delete the Lync user profile with the following path:

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync

Please also make sure Lync client update to the latest version.
