Hosts File in Win7
I have an internal server and on XP I had to edit the hosts file on the internal machines to add the IP/host relationship. WHen I do this in Win7 it still doesn't work. Also, in win7 I get an error with the security cert, that I don't get in XP? Any suggestions?

Hi, By default we do not have permissions to modify the hosts file in Windows 7 beta. The following steps are needed. 1. Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories2. Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"3. Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt4. Click File -> Open5. Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"6. Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"7. Select "hosts" and click "Open"8. Make the needed changes and close Notepad. Save when prompted.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I was able to edit the hosts file, but my app is still not finding the internal server. Is the format of the host file in 7 different than XP?

I have the same issue. I was able to edit the hosts file, add my entries and save the file.I close my browsers (ff and ie8), then at the command prompt, Irunipconfig /flushdns. I can thenping the server name, I get the correct IP, but when I use any browser, I am not getting the proper site.In XP, just a browser close and dnscache flushwere all that was needed, but that doesn't seem to work for windows 7. Any ideas?

Yes I have the same problem. I have changed my HOSTS file, stored, cleared the DNS cache and restart Windows. In the browser this will be ignored. I use windows 7 64bit version.
