Host on Small office network
I have two out of three computers on a small office network that have been unable to access "network path not found". I believe the problem may be that they are both set up to host. How do I stop one computer from being a host? 1 person needs an answerI do too

Well...let's start with the basics...How are these machines connected? Wired? Wireless? Are all three Windows XP machines? Service Pack 3 installed? Are they Windows XP Home? Pro? -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

O.K. Wired?Do they have static or dynamic IP addresses? What kind of switch is connecting them? What, specifically, is it that you're trying to access when you get that error message? -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

wired. static IP addresses. It is a dell switch w/sonic wall firewall.I get a "access denied" "see your network administrator" when I try to access one of the other two computers in the workgroup. Of the three computers, A, B, and C, computer C can be seen and accessed by both computer A and B. Computer C in turn can see and access computer B. However, Computer A and computer B cannot access each other. I get the above message, or, in the case of computer A trying to access computer B in the work group or in the network connections, I get a "server cannot be found" message.

I have been trying to solve this for hours. I keep getting directed to run the network set up wizard. It has been run multiple times, for all the 20 seconds it takes to go through the 3-4 steps. I have run completely through the troubleshooter as well. It is not my dell switch, nor is it the IP address, because both are working fine, and both computers A and B can see computer C just fine. I have checked the correct exceptions onthe firewall for file and printer sharing, and I have chosen to share the shared docs files and printers on computers A and B repeatedly. My workgroup, originally set up by a Computer Guy, is called Seafood. However, everytime I go through the network set up wizard, it wants to call my network MSHOME. On Computer B, I just now got this message that MSHOME was not available and I might not have permission, followed by a statement I have never seen before "the list of workgroup servers is not currently available"......on computer A, is shows two workgroups, MSHOME and SEAFOOD. MS HOme shows only computers A and B. SEAFOOD shows only A and C.

Can you ping the other two machines from any of the machines by IP address? What about by name? All three machines are inside the firewall, I assume.First thing I would do is on each machine right-click My Computer and choose Properties. Then on the Computer Name tab make sure the Workgroup matches. Call it Seafood or MSHOME or Scooby Doo, doesn't matter. But all three should match. Start with that. Then reboot all three machines and see if you can see them. -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook
