Homegrouping isn't working, I've tried almost EVERYTHING
I have windows 7 home premium on my laptop and desktop. They are connected to the same network. I created a homegroup on my desktop and my laptop detected it and said it was available to join. When I enter the password that my desktop homegroup gave me, to the laptop, it gives me an error stating that windows can not set up a homegroup on this compuiter. I ran the trouble shooter and it produced no help at all. I have read and read and read forums and questions on here and tried NUMERUOS solutions to no avail. Any solutions?

Take the backup of the registry and try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983276. If this doesn't work you can revert back the changes

Ive now tried both of those as well. Still nothing...this is very frusterating. I can SEE both computers ON both computers and they are telling me they can be grouped, but when I enter the password, it just gives me that error. If I can see them both on both computers then obviously they are on the same network right? I don't know what else to do.

Hi, According to you description, I assume that you have the correct settings on Home Group. If this issue persists in this situation, I suspect some applications block Home Group service, please kindly try to perform a Clean Boot to check the result. Hope it helps. if I could sigh over the internet right now I would....that did not work either...!? I just recently loaded windows 7 on my desktop. It was a clean install. I completely deleted the old partition and installed windows 7 fresh. It's not THE best desktop in the world, nor the newest but it works just fine (from what I can tell other thant his homegroup thing and the fact it's painfully obvious I need a new video card) none the less. Would that somehow have an effect on why this isn't working? I work from home and i'd REALLY like to group my computers. It would be much easier for me. Any additonal support or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I feel like this is a lost hope almost though! Thanks
