Homegroup very slow while network is OK
When I use homegroup to connect and transfer files between my desktop and laptop the transfer is extremly slow (50kb/sec). If I connect by sharing a folder through the network setting the transfer speed is much faster. I have updated all my drivers, and tried the clean boot suggestion I fould in anothe post. Whu is homegroup so much slower?JB

Hi, First, I would like to confirm the following questions: 1. Which file did you transfer, video, MP3 or some document? 2. How do you know the speed is 50KB/second? Have you install any software to monitor the transfer speed? At this stage, I suggest you temporarily turn off firewall on each machine and transfer some document again. Is the performance quicker? If the network connection is Wireless, you can connect to Internet via wired cable instead for a test. Thanks, Novak

Hi NovakThanks for the reply.I was transfering a data file (quicken I think). When the file transfers a window opens up. When you click for more information the transfer speed shows. I have shut down the firewall (norton and my router) and a clean boot but it makes no difference. I haven't tried a wired connection between the computers so I'll do that tonight. What is strange is that if I don't use homegroup but I set up a shared folder through the network section of my computer, the transfer is much faster (900mb/sec). Homegroup uses IP6 check the firmware of the router, install any updates which deal with IP6.I found I had to replace a cheap netgear router because it CLAIMS to support IP6 but it was SLOW andtook forever to issue IP's out.

My router is a linksys wrt 330n. I can't find any info to tell me if it will use IPv6?

See what firmware is currently loaded on that Linksys, the current firmware they have is 1.00.4 and here's the history for the firmware updates http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/WRT330N-v1_v1.00.4_fw_ver,0.txt and if you need the firmware its here http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT330N/download From everything I've read so far, its outdated as they talk about windows 2000 and xp which to me just indicates ipv4 onlyMCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. If the issue persists after upgrading the firmware, I suggest you transfer one same file using two different ways, HomeGroup and Network Shared folder. Please check the time on each way and let me the result. Thanks,Novak
